Hi all,
Hope you had an amazing weekend full of good food and entertaining games to watch. As I'm half German this was definitely one of my favourite World Cup Foodies days so far! Not necessarily because of the score...2:2 against Ghana was pretty disappointing but more because we drove all the way to Lidl in Clapham that morning to get some German ingredients. Walking into Lidl felt like being home again!!! Brötchen on the left, saure Apfelringe on the right and the Schwarzwald Schinken at the back - I was in heaven! We quickly filled the shopping basket with German goodness such as Bratwurst which was perfect for the Currywurst skewers I made that evening. My friend Cat also came round to watch the game so the pressure was on to cook a yummy German meal.
For the ones who aren't familiar with Currywurst it's a fast food dish which you can find at every corner in Germany. It's a sliced pork sausage cut served with plenty of curry Ketchup and chips. And when I say plenty I mean plenty (!) - the sausage is usually bathing in the curry Ketchup sauce. To make it a bit different I served Currywurst on skewers, added some veggies and placed the curry Ketchup sauce on the side of the plate.
With the sausage skewers I also served a potato salad. Unfortunately I totally forgot to take a photo of it. It was so delicious and loved by everyone that there was simply none left to take a photo of when I remembered!
INGREDIENTS
BRATWURST SKEWERS
Bratwurst (Approx. 8)
2 peppers
200 ml Ketchup
1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
1 onion
5 cherry tomatoes
Tomato paste
Curry powder (medium)
Chilli flakes
Water
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Cut the onion into little pieces and fry them for 3 minutes, add tomato paste and the sliced tomatoes. Let it simmer over medium heat for about 5 more minutes
2. Now add some water, balsamic vinegar and Ketchup
3. Let it simmer for another 5 minutes and add the curry powder as well as the chili flakes if you like it spicy.
5. Test it! The sauce should have a little bit of a kick to it but should still have the distinguish sweet ketchup taste. Add sugar if it needs to be sweeter. Once you're happy with it let it simmer on low heat until the Bratwurst skewers are done.
6. Cut the Bratwurst in 5 cm long pieces. Put them one piece of sausage on the skewer, followed by a piece of pepper. Continue until nothing is left!
7. Now place the skewers (and asparagus if you like) underneath the grill (medium) for about 5-10 minutes. Don't forget to turn the Bratwurst skewers!

2. Fry the bacon and let it cool down as well.
3. Cut the cold potatoes into thick slices, cut the bacon into little chunks

8. Add the slices chives at the end of mix it gently so that the potatoes don't break too much.
Guten Appetit! ENJOY!
